Gettysburg Battlefield Resort sits in the middle of an area rich in Civil War history and affords visitors the opportunity to enjoy yesteryear as well as the present day. Visitors looking to buy, sell or rent timeshare resales will want to start your step back in time by visiting the Gettysburg National Military Park. Literally surrounding the city, the park contains the Gettysburg Battlefield, the site of the most costly battle of the Civil War. On the battlefield, you’ll see the more than 1,300 monuments and markers in the 21-acre Gettysburg National Cemetery. Stop at the Soldier’s National Monument, near where President Abraham Lincoln delivered his famous Gettysburg Address. Relive how the Union soldiers were driven from the huge rocks in a standoff with the Confederate army at Devil’s Den. The barricade the Confederate troops erected, as a shield when they fired on Little Round Top, is still intact. Stop at the Lincoln Room Museum in the Wills House on the square to see where President Lincoln finished his speech. You can see the room’s original furnishings and hear the speech via a stereo presentation. You can be one of the only 1100 visitors a day that are allowed to tour the Eisenhower National Historic Site, the 231-acre farm and home of President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The estate, once the president’s retreat, contains original furnishings as well as personal possessions of the president and his wife. A nice day trip east along Highway 30 will take you alongside horse drawn buggies as you travel through the beautiful rolling hills and farmland of the Amish and Mennonite countryside. Stop at Lancaster to see the Amish Homestead, the National Wax Museum, Dutch Wonderland, and the Pennsylvania Farm Museum of Landis Valley. For an overall view of the Pennsylvania Dutch and Amish country, be sure to take the 45-minute train ride that originates at Strasburg.
