The Welk Resorts brand has been in existence since the 1960s when famed band leader Lawrence Welk bought his first motel in southern California and entered the hospitality industry. Timeshare resorts soon followed, and the company was managed by the family until Marriott Vacations Worldwide acquired Welk Resorts in 2021.
Marriott has since folded the former Welk timeshare resorts into the Hyatt Vacation Club, as Marriott also owns the Hyatt timeshare properties. The resorts described below are all still available to buyers on the resale market, with buyers becoming part of the Hyatt family.
Owners looking to sell Welk timeshare can also sell their properties as resales, as this acquisition actually benefits sellers by providing a much stronger value proposition for buyers becoming part of a much more robust program.
Humble Beginnings for Welk Resorts
Many people remember the Lawrence Welk show of the 1950s and 60s, a variety show which made people laugh out loud for years before LOL. In 1964, he bought a motel and a nine-hole golf course just north of San Diego, and his fans helped him create what is now a premier vacation ownership company.
Owners use a points system, where they can book a stay at one of the resorts or use the exchange system for trips within the Exchange Companies. Timeshare Points are good for one calendar year, unless they choose to roll-over and accumulate extra for a special trip later on.
Resort Locations
The formerly known Welk Resorts are in Branson, Cabo San Lucas, Lake Tahoe and Palm Springs, with plans to add two more timeshare resorts in Breckenridge, Colorado and Kauai, Hawaii. Plus, with the Experiences Collection, owners can use their timeshare points at other high quality resorts in top destinations.
