Things to Do
More than a dozen first-class golf resorts are located in the valley. The Sapphire Mountain Golf Course is the most famous of these. The wide variation in elevation from one end of the course to the other makes for some really challenging shots.
Some of the best fly fishing in the Appalachians is found in the Sapphire area. Several local outfitters even offer beginning fishing lessons for the novice fisherman. Mountain biking and whitewater rafting are other popular activities.
Amazing Nature Experiences
Near Sapphire is Gorges State Park. It is home to more than 50 waterfalls. Just down the highway from the park is Whitewater Falls, the highest falls east of the Rocky Mountains. Also nearby is the Whitewater Equestrian Center. Come here for trail riding, gem mining, and fly fishing excursions.
Several lakes in and around Sapphire support year-round fishing, canoeing, and kayaking. In the wintertime, head to the Sapphire Valley Ski Resort for a day of skiing or snowboarding, and check out the famous Frozen Falls Tube Park.
