At the oasis of Disney Old Key West in Orlando, Florida, you may not be in the Florida Keys, but you will still feel the charm of the Keys and relax beneath swaying palm trees by the water anytime you like. The resort's abundant waterways and fairways mean your golf game can only get better, and the kids will love every minute splashing and swimming in the pools.
This is the first of the Disney Vacation Club properties and the roomiest, but with recent remodeling back in 2018, the accommodations are modern and comfortable as well as spacious.
Each of the two and three-story guest houses is modeled after old-style Spanish Colonial architecture of the Florida Keys, and the homes are clustered together as pods, with common pools for each pod, in addition to the main pool.
The layout means there may be a short walk from the Hospitality and Recreation Areas, but with the upside of giving Disney timeshare owners a quiet retreat from the excitement of the property's entertainment areas.
The rooms and suites are tastefully decorated with a mixture of Old Key West-style themes and favorite Disney characters. They come in four different styles within the guesthouses meaning you can find something suitable for any size party or group. One-bedroom villas and larger have wood floors, laundry facilities, and a kitchen.
Deluxe Studio
The Deluxe Studio is the smallest of the resort's accommodations but still spacious and comfortable with 376 square feet of sleeping and living space.
Studios can sleep up to four people on two queen-sized beds. They include a kitchenette with a toaster, microwave, mini-refrigerator, and a coffee maker. The studios also have a flat-screen TV and DVD player, free Wi-Fi, and a soaker tub in the bathroom. Outside, the porch or balcony gives views of the fairways, waterways, or woods.
One-Bedroom Villa
These one-bedroom Orlando timeshare villas have 942 square feet of living and sleeping space and can sleep up to five adults. The bedroom has a king-sized bed and there is a queen-sized sleeper sofa and a twin-sized sleeper chair in the living room.
Unlike the studios, they include a full-sized and equipped kitchen with all major appliances, a washer/dryer, dishes, and cookware, as well as a toaster, microwave, and coffee maker. In the living room, there is the sleeper sofa and chair, plus a flat-screen TV, DVD player, wireless internet, and a whirlpool tub in the bathroom. Outside, the porch or balcony has views of the woods, the waterways, or the fairways.
Two-Bedroom Villas
The two-bedroom villas have 1,333 square feet of living and sleeping space. These are a popular choice with large families because they can sleep up to nine adults each. Two-bedroom villas have five separate beds, a king-sized bed in the master bedroom, two queen-sized beds in the second bedroom, and a sleeper queen-sized sofa and sleeper twin-sized chair in the living room.
Like the one-bedroom villas, two-bedroom villas at Disney Old Key West have a full-sized kitchen with all major appliances, a coffee maker and toaster, a laundry room, and dishes and cookware. The living room has a flatscreen TV, DVD player, wireless internet, and a balcony or porch overlooking the waterways, fairways, and woods.
The two-bedroom villas also have a lock-off option for additional privacy.
Three-Bedroom Grand Villas
The three-bedroom Grand Villas are the largest units on the property. These Disney timeshares can accommodate up to twelve people across three bedrooms and the living room. The master bedroom has a king-size bed, and one bedroom has two queen-size beds, while the other bedroom has two double-size beds, and there is also a queen-size sleeper sofa in the living room.
Grand Villas include the same type of amenities as the one and two-bedroom villas, including a full-sized kitchen with all major appliances, a flat-screen TV and DVD player in the living room, wireless internet access, and cookware. Depending on the location, you may be near the water, woodlands, or fairways.
Disney Old Key West is part of the Disney family of resorts, so if you are planning on spending time at the Walt Disney World attractions, transportation to and from the parks can be coordinated by buses or a boat ride to Disney Springs. As always, you can drive to any of the parks yourself if you have a car. You can purchase tickets to all major theme parks and make Disney dining reservations directly at the resort.
Onsite, the resort has tennis, shuffleboard, volleyball, and basketball courts, an arcade, and playgrounds, with sports equipment you can get at the Community Hall. Three leisure pools are spaced out among the clusters of homes, plus there is the main pool, Sandcastle Pool, which has a sandy beach, a kiddy pool, and a water slide. The Pool Deck's lighthouse holds the whirlpool hot tub and dry sauna.
The resort also has a fitness center, open seven days a week, onsite restaurant, bike rentals, guided fishing trips, and a scenic mile-long jogging trail.
The Disney World theme parks made Orlando the worldwide tourist destination that it remains to this day, and vacationers can definitely plan on spending their entire time at the parks, especially with the easy transportation offered onsite.
If you are interested in shopping and dining outside of your Orlando timeshare, then the city also has more than its share of malls, shopping centers, restaurants, bars, and nightlife.
In addition to the Disney World parks, families may want to explore the other amusement and theme parks in the area, such as Universal Studios Orlando, LEGOLAND, and SeaWorld. These parks may have families in mind, but they are beloved by people of all ages and can be as much fun for an adult couple traveling together as by families.
Outside of the theme parks, Orlando is filled with attractions ranging from Escape Rooms to water parks, mini-golfing, airboat rides and gator tours, and smaller amusement parks like FunSpot America and Andretti Go Karting and Games.
There is so much to do in and around Orlando that it can be easy to spend your entire vacation visiting the city's theme parks and myriad attractions. However, Orlando's convenient location in central Florida means you can see other parts of the state on a day trip with your pick of attractions.
Beaches are the most popular attraction for both couples and families wanting to get away from Orlando for a day, and from Disney Old Key West you can be at either the Gulf or Atlantic coasts of Florida within a couple of hours.
Daytona Beach and Cocoa Beach are about an hour and a half east of Orlando and have lots to see and do, while the west coast has some of the best beaches in the country near Tampa. The Busch Gardens amusement park or live mermaids at Weeki Wachee Springs State Park in Hernando County are also great family entertainment.
If you are planning to stay at a timeshare at Disney Old Key West, you can expect the busiest seasons to match the peak tourist times in Orlando and the Disney World parks.
In the winter months, it forms a haven for visitors from northern states wanting to enjoy the most magical place on Earth, but January tends to be a time with lower visitor numbers to the parks.
Travel eases off slightly through the winter months but picks up again around Spring Break when children are out of school. Early fall is also a slower time when school starts back up, but summertime remains one of the busiest times of year in Orlando.
